David Garnes

“Writing From Your Life:
One Author’s Experience

    David Garnes is the author of After The War Was Over: Poems Of An American Childhood; From My Life: Travels And Adventures; and, most recently, Waitin' For The Train To Come In: A Novel Of World War II. A former English teacher, he was head of acquisitions at the Columbia University Libraries and head of collection development/reference librarian at the University of Ct., Storrs. He taught at Eastern Ct. State University, Southern Ct. State University, and is now an adjunct faculty member at Manchester Community College.

David Garnes    Addressing writers on the topic “Writing From Your Life: One Author’s Experience,” Garnes will explore ways in which writers can share their meaningful life experiences. After briefly describing various formats (autobiography, memoir, narrative essay, fiction) as well as tips for recalling and highlighting events in life, David will focus on his most recent book as a example of how to incorporate early family memories into a work of fiction.  

    The presentation will follow a short SE CAPA business meeting and networking session that commences at 6:30 pm.
